ABOUT
Sidsel Winther (b. 1991) works site-specifically with a focus on installation and context. She emphasizes the presence of the artwork within specific physical environments. By approaching the work as an implemented disruption, the logic of the space is renegotiated, opening up the possibility of rewriting history.

The works attempt to capture fleeting processes by anchoring them as physical objects. In this way, time and action are frozen as both direct and abstract imprints.

Her practice is rooted in materiality as a carrier of history and information. By acknowledging that every visual phenomenon is produced through a network of power and holds a corresponding hierarchical position within it, shifts and translations in materials and placement can disrupt these hierarchies and thereby renegotiate importance and agency. By translating and stretching traditions, space can be created for neglected and overlooked bodies and positions — with the aim of speaking from places that are not commonly heard and drawing attention to what is most often silent.
