Lift Like No One’s Watching

Scattered throughout the space, the sculptures comprise supporting structures derived from casts of classical Greek sculptures from the Royal Cast Collection. A cloth casually supporting Venus admiring a golden apple, a trunk attached to the idealized beauty of Dionysos, a loincloth connecting plinth and an unknown Hellenistic figure misidentified as the canonical depiction of Seneca dying - all in unglazed recycled clay. Bending, winding, and reaching toward one another, the sculptures suggest interdependence, forming relational constellations that unsettle the ideals of classical form and patriarchal order with its claims of universality. These structures carry the weight of the everyday, yet they linger in the shadows of larger narratives. An exhaustive accumulation of pressure – of duties, on bodies, in the deep sediment – makes it evident that not even an ancient hero can stand alone.
Myth Is Everything

Alongside the detached support structures hang four reliefs depicting fragments of a lactating body and a nitrile-gloved hand receiving the birth of a child. They portray intimate moments of care, where the act of facilitating one another comes to the fore. Here, the distinction between bodies dissolves, and the autonomous self is, if only briefly, suspended. The reliefs are painted with rust pigment extracted directly from found rusty screws and nails.
