Ritual objects without evidential proof of use, that have been said to stem from ancient burial rites. Depicted throughout visual history both in icon Painting, romanticism and middle age frescos but also as graveyard monuments in more recent times. It’s being being discussed whether the archeological findings have ever been bottles used for tears or if it’s just a romantic rewriting, happening especially in victorian times. In either way the idea of the tear Jar carries testimony of human need to hold onto the ephemerality of life, where everything is always in transition of becoming something else.
