cheese wax & composted graveyard flowers from the cemetery’s compost piles
30 x 15 x 4 cm
13 churchyard ornaments cast in cheese wax, composted graveyard flowers and other discarded materials from the cemetery’s compost piles. Over-saturated materiality of rituals, grief, death and life goes on. Kept in a artificially lit basement underneath Vesterbro Kulturhus, where everyday life carries on for children and adults - in the library, the public ceramic workshop and the women’s shelter. invasively crawling up the walls to the most dim and neglected corners. Circling around ventilation ducts, water pipes and trunks. A gesture to the building and its overlooked infrastructure. Infrastructures that, hidden beneath ground level, functions as the digestive organ of the building. A form of metabolism that continuously connects the bodies upstairs. Facilitating an ongoing flow of, air water and bodily waste.
Created as part of the two-day art and performance festival This could be us but you’re so hardcore initiated by the collective big feelings club.
The artists spent spent two days defining Basement as a space - for a public exhibition, as well as for the relational and collective work that made it possible. Traces of this relationship between process, presentation and the final work will find its way into the show. We will work towards maintaining asynchrony instead of a thematically or curatorial coherency - except for the wish to make it happen.
Big feelings club is a collective consisting of the four artists: Pernille Emilia Kjær, Billie Meiniche, Mie Mo and Cecilie Mark. They work together to create spaces for circulation of knowledge and collective capacity and collegial community instead of a culture dominated by competition.
